Decorating Your Home Tells Your Story
These decorating tips are everyday ideas that you can use to let your home
tell its own unique story. You look forward to going home because it's a
reflection of you and your family.
Take goodness, keep truth, and you'll find beauty.
The best place to start is the backround. Floors, windows, wall color... these
choices are often influenced by the goodness we find in a chair, painting, or
heirloom piece that must be part of the room.
Art and furniture should be an inspiration because then it adds to our life. We
live better. We love better. We laugh better. It's part of keeping truth in
your home.
For about a year or so, the painting over our fireplace was one I picked up
because I thought the colors went well with the room. They did. The painting,
however, did absolutely nothing for me.
Then one day I was in a store and saw a painting that drew me in. The colors
were perfect. I went back later and bought it. I can't tell you the difference
it has made to have inspiring art rather than that blah painting.
Three basic styles encompass the choices you make.
Traditional
This style has survived time while reflecting old world elegance...looks of raw
silk and jewel tones...rich mellow yellows and regal reds. To soften this style
add an inviting chair and a half with a soft throw. (We all need our down time.)
Casual
This style is relaxed and comfortable. You like wicker and magazines. With
light colors and neutral backrounds it says, "Sit down... relax... we've go time for
conversation."
Modern
This high style is sleek with distinct lines. Colors are drawn from black,
white, and gray with an accent of red and minimal accessories. Add a comfy
leather sofa to the simple lines of steel framed recliners and glass tables...
wah-la... your laptop never felt so light!
With these
decorating
tips you will be creating your style and using
color
to influence the mood of your home. As you
update over time
you will create rooms that have the look of being decorated over a lifetime.
They tell a story. (Though it may be ecclectic as you incorporate your own ideas into
each style.) It's the story of you and your family.
Now you've found the beauty.
